My essay:

Access to freshwater is essential to living creatures on the planet. Some argue that everyone should be free to use water as much as they wish while others believe water usage needs restricting. Personally, I agree with the latter view.
On the one hand, I understand why some people think that we should be given the freedom to use freshwater. First, water is a basic human necessity; we all need it for our survival and daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and drinking. Hence, the restriction of this resource would certainly disturb everyone’s life. In addition, numerous fields namely farming, electricity production, and so on rely heavily on water, which means that many people are dependent on this commodity to make a living. For instance, farmers have to water the crops on a daily basis. Therefore, if the government strictly controlled this natural resource, it would affect such businesses. Undoubtedly, the demand for freshwater is unchangeable.
Nevertheless, there are persuasive reasons to explain why I suppose that the government should set legal limits on the use of clean water. First and foremost, some regions including South Africa face a water crisis, which jeopardizes public health. In fact, studies have shown that the lack of adequate and clean water is the key reason why up to five million people die each year from water-related illnesses. In addition, water tends to be perceived as a cheap commodity by many families and businesses; they see water as a perpetual resource. As a result, many sources of water are being misused, wasted, and polluted. Thus, without government intervention in water use, this natural resource would probably be depleted.
In conclusion, although freshwater is a basic human need, in my view, the government needs to introduce water regulations to preserve this commodity, otherwise, our future generation might face a global water crisis eventually.
