IELTS Writing Task 2 – Topic 4: Should Children Do Organized Activities In Their Free Time?

Task 2: Children should do organized activities in their free time while others believe children should be free to do what they want. Discuss both views and give your opinion?

My essay:
Parents are always concerned about their children’s leisure activities. Some think young students should be allowed to do what interests them in their spare time while others believe that they should take part in organized activities. Personally, I agree with the latter view.
On the one hand, there are some reasons why some people think students should have the freedom to pursue their own interests. First, since schoolchildren are already disciplined at school and have a great deal of academic pressure, they deserve to do what they want in their free time. Furthermore, some children are gifted in certain fields. Therefore, if they can engage in such fields from an early age, they are more likely to be successful later on.
Nevertheless, I think it is important that children need to attend organized activities. It is easy for many to adopt unhealthy habits. Nowadays, many children are addicted to online games, and as a result, suffer from health problems, particularly obesity. Hence, if schools frequently organize activities for students, they would have the opportunity to try something new and healthy. In addition, as these types of activities tend to be social events, participants could interact with each other, and therefore, develop such social skills as body language, and communication. Undoubtedly, the advantages of such a plan like this are significant.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that a few children can develop themselves if they have the freedom to do what they want. In my opinion, however, organized activities are better for them.
