IELTS Writing task 2: Animal Protection

MẪU IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Topic 8: Some people think that too much attention and too many resources are given to the protection of wild animals and birds. Do you agree or disagree?
My essay:
In recent years, many wildlife conservation programmes have been implemented in most parts of the world. However, some people argue that too much money and resources are spent on such programmes. Personally, I completely disagree with this view.
There are several reasons to explain why some do not support animal protection. First, the expenses for protecting endangered species are high. As well as food and shelter, money is needed to employ specialist staff who research and take care of them. This type of spending primarily comes from taxpayers’ money, which means everyone in society is forced to take this responsibility. As a result, those who are not interested in animals may think it wildlife conservation is a waste of the government budget. Furthermore, in underdeveloped regions where inhabitants still struggle with serious issues such as poverty, pollution, and natural disasters, spending on animal programmes would probably encounter public opposition. Generally, it is understandable for some to oppose wildlife protection.
Nevertheless, I believe that the investment in animals is worthwhile. First and foremost, animals have a profound impact on the well-being of humanity. Since we share an ecosystem with them, our quality of life and survival is linked to them. This means that if a species goes extinct, it will surely alter human life and disrupt our ecosystem. For instance, when the American Bison began to vanish in the 19th century, people who were dependent on them for food or fur for warmth, or trading suffered. In addition, animals play a significant role in the development of human medicine. Many species have unique bodily processes that can offer insight into understanding and curing dangerous diseases. The study of healthy polar bears having up to 11 centimeters of fat underneath their skin, for example, may help us understand heart disease and diabetes that threaten obese people’s lives. Such reasons show that if we ignore the existence of other living creatures, we, humans, are eventually affected.
In conclusion, although it might be expensive to carry out animal conservation campaigns, in my opinion, wild animals deserve our investment.
