MẪU IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Task 2: Some children spend hours every day on their smartphones.
Why is this the case? Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?
My essay:
These days, students tend to spend most of their spare time surfing the Internet or playing online games on their smartphones after school. This trend is caused by a few factors and, in my opinion, is a negative development, as a whole.
There are some reasons why children are glued to smartphone screens. First, many, especially those who live in urban areas, have very few outdoor activities to take part in, few places to go, and little money to spend. Therefore, the only way for them to unwind or kill time is to surf the Internet. In addition, parents are the ones responsible for the popularity of this trend. Nowadays the majority of parents use technological devices such as televisions, tablets, and smartphones to keep their toddlers entertained so that they can work or do household chores. This forms a habit of using such gadgets among modern children as they get older. Clearly, the reasons for more and more children devoting their spare time to electronic devices appear to stem from modern life.
Nevertheless, it leads to significant problems. First and foremost, cyber crimes namely phishing scams, cyber harassment, and identity theft are increasingly popular, which creates fear across the online community and affects all Internet users, particularly young ones. Indeed, there have been many cases where children have become victims of cybercrime and have suffered irreversible consequences. Moreover, as they spend more time on social media, less time is spent on physical activities and studying. As a result, they would probably fall behind with their studies and have health issues.
In conclusion, although modern gadgets help young users pass the time when they are at a loose end, overusing them can result in considerable issues.
